Elevator hydraulic jack

Home    Elevator hydraulic jack

The hydraulic jack or hydraulic cylinder of the elevator is a basic element in the system of hydraulic elevators. These jacks use hydraulic power to move the elevator up and down.

Elevator hydraulic jack structure

The hydraulic jack structure consists of an iron cylinder that contains hydraulic oil and a piston. When the hydraulic oil is compressed into the cylinder, the piston moves up or down and this effect is done in the movement of the elevator.

Elevator hydraulic jack function

We can interpret the function of the elevator hydraulic jack in a simple way; When a person or load enters the elevator and presses the desired button, the hydraulic system of the elevator jack applies pressure to the pressurized hydraulic fluid such as oil. This pressure compresses the hydraulic fluid in the jack cylinder and causes the jack and the elevator steps to move up or down. Due to the compression of the fluid, the pressure created is transferred to all points of the hydraulic system, and based on hydraulic principles, the force applied on Liquid zinc is transferred to all surfaces equally. In this way, the elevator moves safely and precisely.
In short, the hydraulic jack works in the elevator like a crane. When hydraulic oil pressure is applied from one side of the cylinder, the elevator moves in the opposite direction.

The advantages of using the elevator hydraulic jack

The hydraulic jack of elevators is welcomed today because of the advantages they have, these advantages include:

• Long life and reliable performance
• Smooth and silent movement
• The least need for physical space compared to mechanical systems
• Easier and cheaper installation

Disadvantages of using elevator hydraulic jack

In the use of elevator hydraulic jacks, its disadvantages are also seen, which include:
• The need for regular maintenance and periodic oil change
• Installation and maintenance costs are higher than mechanical systems
Of course, compared to the advantages of using a hydraulic jack, its disadvantages can be ignored.

Types of elevator hydraulic jacks

There are different types of hydraulic jacks, but they are divided into two general categories, single-stage and telescopic hydraulic jacks, other categories of hydraulic jacks related to their location include:
• Straight side hydraulic jack:
In the direct side jack model, the jack is installed directly next to the cabin in a ratio of 1:1. This model is used for relatively small cabins with one jack and for larger cabins and higher capacities (such as car lifts), two jacks are used.

  • Indirect hydraulic jack next to:

In the indirect side jack system, the jack is installed on the side of the cabin and indirectly with a ratio of 2:1. In this method, one jack is usually used, but in special conditions, such as very large and heavy cabins, two or more jacks can be used.

The moving course of the jack, in this system, is half the length of the moving path of the cabin. Therefore, the moving speed of the cabin will be twice the speed of the jack. On the other hand, the force on the jack is equal to twice the weight of the load and the elevator cabin.

    Hydraulic jack directly below:

In the direct under jack structure, generally a jack is installed under the cabin and has a 1:1 direct connection. In this type of jack, the length of the cabin and jack course are equal. For this reason, the moving speed of the elevator cabin and the jack are also the same. In addition, the total force that enters the hydraulic jack is equal to the weight of the load and the cabin.

Elevator hydraulic jack components

Hydraulic jack, as the most basic part of hydraulic elevators, is composed of various components, these components include:

Jack shaft:

The hydraulic lift jack shaft is generally made of a seamless steel tube with a fully polished surface. The outer surface of the jack shaft is in contact with the sealing packings and must be free of wounds and scratches. To polish the surface of the shaft, the honing process is performed with high precision on it. Sometimes, pipes with chrome outer surface are used for this purpose.

The outer diameter of the pipe is determined in system pressure calculations. The size of the diameter of the jack shaft is inversely proportional to the pressure of the system. Also, the thickness of the jack shaft is also considered in the jack buckling calculations. Calculations of pressure and buckling should be done separately for each device, according to its technical specifications.

Jack cylinder:

The jack cylinder is a seamless steel tube inside which the shaft moves. The elevator jacks are designed in such a way that the piston inside the cylinder is not in contact with it. Therefore, there is no need to polish the inner surface of the cylinder. The upper end of the cylinder is equipped with sealing parts that are in contact with the shaft. The main oil flow port can be located at the top, bottom or anywhere in the cylinder body. Determining the exact location of the jack port depends on its type and installation method. For example, direct-acting jacks installed under the cab have their port located above the cylinder and connected to the hose. Also, sub-telescopic jacks are different in that their port is located at the bottom of the jack and is directed up through a tube outside the cylinder.

Rapture Jack:

Rupcherolo or jack safety valve is an important part in hydraulic elevators, which is used to prevent the sudden fall of the jack in the event of a rupture of the hydraulic hose. This part must pass all the technical tests and get the standard certificate. In hydraulic elevators with two jacks (double jack), there is a need to install rapture rollers in such a way that if one of the burst valves is activated, the other jack’s burst valve is immediately locked, in order to prevent accidents.

Hydraulic jack and elevator power unit complement each other

Hydraulic jack and power unit complement each other, the power required for the jacks to move is supplied through the power unit. In the design of hydraulic elevators, the model and brand of the hydraulic jack must be determined, and based on the technical specifications of the hydraulic jack, depending on the amount of energy required, the desired power unit hydraulic jack should be prepared.
